2017 Update to NRA's Basic Pistol Student &
Instructor Certification Classes

NRA recently released its’ latest version of the “Basic Pistol Classes”
which became effective April 4, 2017. The blended class (as in the past)
is divided into two separate classes. (Phase one is still taken online &
Phase 2 is taken in person with an NRA certified pistol instuctor.)
This class is no longer a pre-requisite for pistol instructor training!

The new ILT (Instructor Led Training) Basic Pistol Class is taught in its'
entirety with an NRA certified instructor (just like the old basic pistol class),
but with many significient improvements, especially in the range portion.
ILT is now the pre-requisite class for pistol instructor training.

Blue Mesa Shooting, of course, offers both these classes several times
each month, with an ILT class normally scheduled on the Friday
immediately preceeding the scheduled pistol instructor class date.
(See schedule of classes on the previous [opening) page.]

All NRA certified Pistol Instructor can teach either of these classes.

This may all seem somewhat confusing, & I totally understand. Please free
free to call at any time for clarification. I do not mind evening or weekend calls.

NRA Instructor Certification Classes
With a 4 student minimum & a few days lead time, these classes will be
offered about any time!
It is an NRA requirement that students enrolling in any instructor certification class (Instructor
candidates) must have completed the B.I.T. (Basic Instructor Training Class) within two years
of class date, or they must take, or re-take, it prior to beginning their instructor class. Blue Mesa
Shooting Academy
offers this class, often at no additional charge, for students who require it. NRA does
not allow Training Counselors to teach this as a stand alone class, only in conjuntion with an instructor
certification class.
Please call Larry @ 970-249-2771 with any questions or for further clarification!
The Basic Pistol ILT, (instructor Led Training) or a previous NRA Basic Pistol class, is also a
pre-requisite for the
Pistol Instructor Class. Blue Mesa Shooting offers these classes,
(B.I.T. & ILT) for those who need them, in the days immediately preceding the applicable scheduled
instructor class.

If a date is not specified for a below listed class, with a few days lead time to order NRA
required materials, I will offer it about any time!

The "Full" Designation for the below listed ILT classes refers to the type of
class, (revolver & semi-automatic pistol training is provided), not that the class is sold out.
It is
the per-requisite
class for Instructor Candidate students & also designed for students looking
for a great basic pistol class.

According to our local law enforcement authority, this class should satisfy requirements for concealed
carry training for Colorado and many, if not most, states. However, I strongly encourage
students from other states to check with their local officials responsible for issuing permits to
determine if this class will meet your state's requirements.
As you may be aware, requirements for concealed carry training vary significantly from state
to state & in some cases from county to county.

Advanced pistol courses. We also offer "Range Safety Officer", Basic Rifle & Shotgun Training.

Specific Course Information

#1. Academy Class (30 Hr. Course)

Our "Basic/Intermediate Handgun & Personal Protection/Home Defense CHP Class" (formerly ccw), is designed for beginning and
intermediate students.
This is the heart of our curriculum & because it is based on Gunsite doctrine, we believe it is the most comprehensive
& complete
course of its type on the Western Slope, maybe the state. We cover awareness training, firearm presentation & carry options,
home defense, and Colorado gun laws. We include an extended session covering circumstances warranting the use of deadly force & our range
classes will introduce students to "Real Life" Tactical Shooting Scenarios including a real (not simulated) night shoot!

When, and if, most of these subjects are covered by competitors, they are usually relegated to their "Advanced Classes." Because we believe
they are so vitally important, we include them in this Course!

Consisting of a full 30 hours of training compared to most others lasting between 4 to12 hours, this course meets & exceeds the training
requirements for obtaining a Concealed Carry Weapons Permit for Colorado, & Florida. At course completion, graduates are normally able to
draw a concealed firearm and fire two rounds accurately in approximately 2 to 2½ seconds. With dedicated practice, many reduce this time!
Class is normally offered three times per year!
This is our Academy, or Full Length Course, & is not an NRA Approved Course!
Click here for course outline & further details!

Course is normally offered three (3) or more times annually - Winter — January, Spring — March , & Fall — September
With a four student minimum, this class will be offered about any time!

Next Scheduled Academy Class Date:
Jan. 2018 — Exact date TBD
#2 CHP Classes
Regular Class
Our "Basic Handgun Shooting Class"
( Concealed Handgun Permit Training Class)
Consists of 9 hours (give or take) of instruction on the second Saturday of each month . Sunday classes are available for students who work
Saturdays. Call for details. This class is designed primarily for students with a limited time schedule & meets training requirements for Colorado
Concealed Carry Permits. With a minimum of three or four students, we will offer the class about any time! Tuition is $100. Students supply their own ammunition. (80 to100 rounds) A non refundable deposit of $50.00 (or full payment) is required to guarantee your spot. Should you have to miss your scheduled class date, this payment will normally be applied to a future class. Students who miss their second class without notification, will forfeit their payment.

This is our Short Course & is not an NRA class! It is heavily slanted toward Personal Protection (Combat) Shooting, which is what virtually all our students want as opposed to target or bull's eye shooting.
Class room is located at 123 Akard Ave. - Montrose
Please bring the following to class:
Firearm - Loaners are available - Please do not purchase one prior to attending class
Holster - Loaners are available
Ammunition - minimum of 70 rounds. Please, no live ammunition in the classroom!
Hearing & Eye Protection
Water (For Range)
Streamlined One Day Class
Blue Mesa Shooting Academy is now offering an optional, streamlined version of our one day concealed carry (CHP) class. This shortened version will substitute classroom dry fire practice shooting for range work & will shorten the regular class time by a few hours, reduce the price of said class from $110.00 to $65.00 & satisfy state requirements requiring students to show “competency” with a handgun. This dry fire practice will be based on Gunsite Training Academy’s teaching since Larry is a graduate of both their “250” & more advanced “350” pistol classes.
As stated, this class is an option & we will continue to offer our regular class, with range live fire shooting, for those who desire more advanced training. Additionally, streamlined students may take the range portion at a later date. Please call for further information, clarification, or questions. (970) 249-2771

#3. Personal Protection in the Home

This class exposes students to several schools of thought regarding defensive shooting techniques. It is much more than just a routine
shooting course. The NRA Basic Personal Protection series is based on the building block approach, moving from the simple to the complex.
The first course in this series is the Basic Pistol (CHP) Course, listed above. This is the second step. It builds on the skills learned in the
Basic Pistol Course. The third step in the series is the new NRA "Personal Protection Outside the Home" Course.
PPITH is offered quarterly.
BMSA believes this & the PPOTH course (listed below) provide significantly greater training in "Positive Attitude, Knowledge & Skills" for
Personal Protection
Click Here for Color Flyer on this Class!

#4. "Personal Protection Outside the Home"
BMSA believes this course (& the above listed PPITH course) provides significant training in "Positive Attitude, Knowledge & Skills",
for Personal Protection.

 Defensive Shotgun Class

A “Personal Protection” Training Course!
This is Not an NRA Class! Color Flyer

This is not a class in trap, skeet, or target shooting. The focus is on personal defense. Numerous tactical aspects will be addressed. One
does not need an expensive high end gun for self defense. As a matter of fact, practically any shotgun you have will work fine. The focus
of this class is to learn to use what you’
ve got. Due to the limited ammunition capacity of shotguns, another major emphasis will be on
reloading, both tactical & speed.

One day class will be fun and informative. Includes classroom and range work.
Priced at only $80.00
